Gurpinder Bains / General Manager / High Wycombe

Gurpinder Bains - General Manager

What does your role involve?
My role is to make sure that the club experience for a member is nothing short of excellent. The nature of the business means that every day brings new challenges and I need to be quick thinking and adaptable. As General Manager I am responsible for each department and sometimes have to assist at a moments notice. This makes my role challenging and also satisfying. I constantly train and support all staff to make sure they are always aiming to better themselves. I hold Manager meetings where we discuss as a team better ways of running the Club and ways to improve the member experience.

What do you love about what you do?
I love the different challenges that each day brings. I also love seeing our Team succeed in their goals from achieving personal development to hitting their individual and team targets.

What’s the most challenging thing about your work?
Being responsible for the overall performance of the club means that I am sometimes in business for quite long hours and my role can be demanding but the satisfaction and reward make it worth it.

What do you do outside of work?
I am very family orientated so spend most of my time with my family and friends. I enjoy socialising and regularly play 5 a side football which helps keep me fit and healthy.

What has been the highlight of your time at Fitness First?
Since starting my role as General Manager I have taken an under performing club and by providing support and training to the existing staff to enable the team to turn the business around taking us to one of the top performing clubs in the region. The team makes me very proud.

What’s your advice for someone considering a career in the fitness industry?
You need to have a passion for Fitness and Health, as you will need to inspire your teams and your Members. I do believe this is the best industry to work in, as you will be changing people’s lives.
